When I was a kid, I was fascinated by airplanes. I remember pressing my nose against the airport window, watching the planes taxi in, and pretending I was the captain making the announcements. That fascination never really left—and now I get to share it in the form of fun, printable pages that spark that same curiosity and creativity.

For this set, I designed a variety of airplanes—from cute and cartoony to more detailed jetliners—that work for different ages and coloring styles. Whether you’re coloring at the kitchen table, prepping for a party, or printing something special for a travel activity pack, these pages are just the ticket. ✈️

✈️ 10 Airplane Craft Ideas for Kids

1. Paper Tube Airplanes

Turn an empty toilet paper roll into the body of a mini airplane!

Cut wings and tail fins from construction paper or cardstock and glue them onto the tube.

Next, add a paper circle on the front to create a propeller, using a brad fastener so it can spin.

Kids can decorate their planes with markers, stickers, or glitter for extra flair.

2. Clothespin Gliders

This simple craft uses wooden clothespins as the airplane body and craft sticks for the wings.

Paint the pieces in bright colors before gluing them together.

You can even add tiny pom-poms for engines or draw on cockpit windows.

These are fun to fly across the room or use as party decorations.

3. Paper Airplane Station

Create a fold-your-own airplane station with colorful printer paper or blank sheets kids can decorate first.

Teach a few classic folds (dart, glider, stunt plane) and let kids test them for distance or style.

You can even set up a mini “runway” for launching.

It’s a great hands-on activity that doubles as entertainment and a science lesson!

4. Popsicle Stick Biplanes

Stack two popsicle sticks (one above the other) with a mini clothespin or dowel in the middle to form a biplane.

Use hot glue or tacky glue to secure the wings and tail.

Add a button or bead to the front to mimic a propeller.

These make cute take-home crafts or party favors for an airplane-themed celebration.

5. Airplane Garland

Cut out airplane shapes from cardstock or patterned paper and punch small holes for stringing.

Let kids decorate each airplane with names, colors, or stickers.

Then string them onto yarn or ribbon to create a festive airplane garland.

Hang it up in a playroom, classroom, or at a party for high-flying décor.

6. Sponge Stamped Clouds + Planes

Cut sponge shapes into clouds and small airplane silhouettes.

Let kids dip them in paint and stamp onto large sheets of paper to create sky scenes.

Add cotton balls for fluffy clouds or draw in sunshine and birds.

This is a great sensory activity for younger kids with big imaginations.

7. Build-a-Plane Collage

Provide kids with pre-cut airplane parts (wings, tails, fuselages, wheels) in various colors and shapes.

Let them design and glue together their own unique airplane on a blank background.

They can mix and match parts to create silly or serious designs.

Encourage them to name their aircraft and explain what it does!

8. Airplane Masks

Make “pilot goggles” using cardboard or paper plates, cutting eye holes and attaching yarn or elastic.

Kids can color them to look like aviator glasses, or add glitter and foil for a futuristic look.

Pair with a paper pilot’s badge for imaginative play.

These masks are great for photo booths or pretend flight missions.

9. Foam Glider Decorating Station

Purchase bulk foam airplane gliders (usually in white or neon colors) and set up a decorating station.

Provide markers, stickers, washi tape, and small embellishments.

After designing, kids can test-fly their creations outside or down a hallway.

It’s fun, active, and creative all in one go.

10. Airplane Window Art

Cut out a “window frame” from a paper plate or cardstock to mimic an airplane window.

Let kids draw or paint what they imagine seeing out the window during a flight—clouds, mountains, cities, or dinosaurs!

This is a great way to blend creativity with storytelling.

Hang their “views” on the wall to create your own in-flight gallery.
