🚀 10 Astronaut Craft Ideas for Kids
1. DIY Rocket Ship Craft
Turn paper towel rolls into colorful DIY rocket ships using paint, foil, and construction paper! Kids can decorate their rockets with stickers and pretend they're blasting off to the moon. Add flames made from tissue paper for a dramatic launch. It’s simple, mess-friendly, and full of imagination!
2. Make Galaxy Slime
Create stretchy galaxy slime using black glue, glitter, and purple/blue food coloring. It looks just like the night sky — sparkly, swirly, and fun to squish! Perfect for sensory play and easy to make with a few household ingredients. Add tiny stars or space confetti for extra fun.
3. Moon Rock Hunt
Hide silver-painted rocks (aka “moon rocks”) around your yard or home and let the kids go on a space mission to collect them. Give each explorer a mini bag or container to hold their finds. You can even assign point values to each rock for a fun space scavenger hunt. This one’s great for outdoor play or party games!
4. Build a Marshmallow Constellation
Use mini marshmallows and toothpicks to build your favorite constellations. Kids can copy real star patterns or invent their own! It’s a creative, hands-on way to learn about space shapes while sneaking in a little snack. Just don’t eat all the stars before you finish building!
5. Astronaut Training Obstacle Course
Set up a mini obstacle course in the backyard or living room to simulate “zero gravity training.” Crawl under chairs, jump over pillows, and balance across a space bridge! Give each child a mission badge when they complete the course. It’s fun, active, and burns off rocket fuel (aka energy).
6. Paint a Watercolor Galaxy
Break out the watercolors and let kids paint dreamy galaxy scenes. Use dark blues, purples, and a sprinkle of white paint (or a toothbrush!) for star splatter. Add planets, rockets, or shooting stars if you’re feeling extra creative. Every galaxy turns out different and magical!
7. Design Your Own Alien
Hand out blank alien templates or coloring sheets and let kids create their own friendly outer space creatures. Give them silly names, powers, and favorite planets to live on! This is a great activity for open-ended imagination and storytelling. Bonus: add googly eyes and glitter glue for some extra fun!
8. Space Bingo Printable Game
Print out a space-themed bingo game with rockets, stars, astronauts, and aliens. Kids can use buttons, snacks, or star stickers as markers. It’s the perfect party or classroom game with just the right amount of friendly competition. Plus, you can reuse the boards again and again!
9. DIY Astronaut Helmet Craft
Cut out and decorate your own astronaut helmet using a paper plate or cardboard box. Add shiny foil, markers, and stars to give it that NASA-approved look. Once it’s on, pretend you're floating in zero gravity around the house. Don’t forget to wave to Mission Control!
10. Glow-in-the-Dark Star Room
Transform any room into a space station by adding glow-in-the-dark stars and planets to the walls or ceiling. Turn off the lights and let the room glow like a real night sky! You can even put on space sounds or relaxing music for a bedtime “orbit.” It’s a calming way to end your cosmic day.
